Welling manager Andy Ford has signed keeper Charlie Mitten after ending Clark Masters' loan spell at the club.
Masters has come under criticism from sections of the Welling fans after a series of recent errors, including one in last weekend's 2-0 Blue Square South defeat at Chelmsford.
The Wings had been due to extend his loan for the rest of the season but Masters has now returned to Southend, hoping that a possible trial with League 2 Grimsby could bring about a move.
Ford added: "I was going to extend it and the Southend manager Steve Tilson thought that as well.
"But Clark's agent has got in into Clark's head that he can get a move to Grimsby so we went our separate ways after Saturday."
The Wings, who are also aiming to sign a keeper on loan from a League club until the end of the season, have now turned to Mitten who left cash-strapped Folkestone earlier this season.
Ford has also allowed former number one Jamie Turner to complete his move to Ramsgate.
