The A21 was shut in both directions this afternoon while police reportedly chased wild boar off the road.

Officers are said to have been trying to get four animals off the dual carriageway near Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury.

The road was closed between Longfield Road at North Farm roundabout and the A264 from about 12.30pm.

A witness said officers were "not having much luck" at trying to contain the boar.

Kent Highways urged drivers to use alternative routes until the road was re-opened shortly after 1pm.

Both sides of the A21 at the stretch near the hospital are close to woodland including Robingate Wood, Newbars Wood and Owlnest Wood.

Earlier, a broken down vehicle caused delays at the same spot at around 11.30am.
