Anguish as dead baby's clothes are stolen

A GRIEVING grandmother has blasted a thief who took her dead granddaughter’s clothes from a funeral parlour.

Lia Bishop was horrified when she discovered a dress, cardigan and a pair of ballet shoes costing almost £100, bought for the child’s funeral, had been snatched from Freeman’s Funerals in Union Street, Maidstone.

A handbag and portable DVD player were also taken during the theft a fortnight ago.

Her daughter Amy Broad and son-in-law Allen’s second child Katie died at birth on February 19.

Mrs Bishop, of The Beeches, Aylesford, said:"My daughter was distraught after Katie died, so to be told someone had done this broke her heart.

"I know some people steal for a living to feed the habits they have, but to sink this low has really hurt us all.

"It has totally destroyed my daughter. She has had a terrible time and just asked me why this has happened to her."

Funeral arranger Rose Usman believes the thief was a middle-aged man who had come into the office during the day on February 27, to use their toilet.

She said: "My things can be replaced, but these clothes were irreplaceable to the family.

"There are some really evil, nasty people out there and they probably don’t appreciate how distressing this has been for the family."
