A man has been arrested after armed police were called to reports of someone carrying a suspected weapon.
Police were called to a business near Sutton Road, Maidstone, at 9.10am today (Thursday).
Officers, including firearms units, attended the scene, but the man had already left.
A suspect, a man in his 30s, was later found in Week Street and arrested in connection with the incident.
Witness Colin Mann, who was walking along Week Street shortly after 1 pm, said he saw armed officers shouting at a man to get on the ground outside Society Room entrance.
He said: “One officer was heavily armed and another was shouting at the man to lie down.
“He did, and they restrained him using plastic ties.
“Then two more police vehicles arrived with more armed officers.”
Mr Mann said he saw about six armed officers in total and took a photo of the scene moments later.
“It was the first time I’d seen armed police in action.
“The situation looked tense but controlled,” he added.
