A bridge over the River Medway has been closed to traffic while work is carried out to repair a burst water main at East Farleigh, near Maidstone.
In the meantime, East Farleigh Bridge is shut, causing delays for motorists. A diversion is in place via the B2010 Lower Road to Teston Lane and Teston Bridge, and up to Tonbridge Road.
Residents in the area have been without water since 5.30am today, but the repairs should be completed by 4pm, South East Water has said
The company has made a supply of bottled water available to those needing it in today's sweltering heat.
The water can be collected from water officials in Riverside Park.
South East Water apologised for the time taken to complete the work, but said that because there were other contractors working close by they had had to dig by hand to carry out the repair.
