Driver caught doing 100mph as exhaust sparks on road on M20 near Maidstone

A driver was caught doing more than 100mph in a 50mph zone - after being spotted by police because his exhaust pipe was sparking on the ground.

Officers halted the man heading towards junction 8 of the M20 near Maidstone.

When he stopped for officers, he failed a "drug wipe" and was also found to be in possession of cannabis.

Kent Police Roads Policing Unit tweeted: "Vehicle seen driving over 100mph in the 50mph limits towards junction 8.

"The car stuck out like a sore thumb as the exhaust was sparking on the ground!

"Male stopped and driver failed roadside drug wipe and found to be in possession of cannabis. #byebyelicence."

Officers have arrested a 30-year-old man from Herne Bay on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.

He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
