By Chris Hunter

A burst water main has caused delays on the A249 near Detling and as a result the road was closed.

Kent Highways had reported slow moving traffic on the northbound carriageway due to a burst water main between the M20 Junction 7 and the Detling turning.

The incident was reported just before 5pm yesterday and South East Water were been informed.

The northbound carriageway was closed from the M20 Junction 7 for Maidstone to Pilgrims Way, the Detling turn-off.

As a result there was congestion on the M20 eastbound to Junction 5 for Aylesford and also congestion back to Maidstone Town Centre.

One lane reopened overnight but the other lane is expected to remain closed throughout today.
