Criminal damage probe as Maidstone Sainsbury's Local has window pane smashed

Workers had a fright last Friday after a shop window was smashed.

Tape still lines part of the Sainsbury's Local in Boughton Parade on Loose Road, but most of the window remains in tact.

A spokesperson confirmed one pane of its triple-glazed window next to the checkout had smashed, but the cause remains unknown.

It is thought the window may have been damaged by a BB gun or catapult.

Police were called to the scene at 7.25pm on Friday and are investigating the incident as potential criminal damage.

A spokesperson from Kent Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident and nobody has been arrested at this stage.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Kent Police on 01622 604100 quoting reference 26-1461.

"Alternatively call the independent charity ‘Crimestoppers in Kent’ anonymously on 0800 555111."

The smashed pane has been removed and is set to be replaced this week.
