Age UK Maidstone suspends CEO Paul Coles, while three staff face redundancy

A Maidstone charity is keeping tight lipped as to why its CEO is currently suspended.

Paul Coles was suspended from his post at Age UK Maidstone at the start of February.

Louise MacPherson, deputy CEO of the charity, said: "We can't comment on anything to do with the suspension of our chief officer. It's an ongoing investigation."

Mr Coles' suspension comes as at least three people at the charity face redundancy, under what Ms MacPherson called a "re-structuring" of its services.

She added a final decision on redundancies will not be made until after the investigation into Mr Coles has concluded.

Ms MacPherson added: "There have been notices of redundancy. Those redundancies depend on the how the re-structuring goes. Obviously we don't want to lose anyone but we need to be financially stable."

The investigation is internal and does not involve Kent Police.

Age UK Maidstone is responsible for the West Kent Befriending Service.

The charity in Mill Street said it did not expect its review to affect services.

Age UK Tunbridge Wells spoke out about funding concerns in February.
