Maidstone: Adam and Amy Pryor win £1 million on EuroMillions Millionaire Maker lucky dip

A Maidstone couple who won £1 million on the lottery are thanking Lady Luck for turning their lives around when they were on the brink of despair.

Naturally, Adam and Amy Pryor were over the moon when their EuroMillions Millionaire Maker lucky dip ticket came up trumps.

But the win has been especially sweet as it will enable them to be there for their eight-month-old daughter, Charlotte, who has significant health problems.

Earlier this month Mrs Pryor made the difficult decision not to return to work so she could look after the youngster full-time, while Mr Pryor was working all the overtime he could get, barely seeing his family, to make ends meet.

But now, just a week later, they are planning their first holiday together - and a dream trip to Disneyland.

Mr Pryor, 33, said: “I don’t really believe in fate but on this occasion I think I might, the timing of our win really couldn’t have been better as until last Tuesday the future was looking a bit grim.

“And now, when we needed it most, Lady Luck has stepped in and we couldn’t be more relieved.”

The couple’s journey to millionaire status started at 6am on Wednesday morning when Mr Pryor received an email to say he’d had a win.

He said: “I was just getting up for work and sorting out Charlotte when I saw the email but guessed it was a couple of quid so ignored the message. About an hour later I decided to log-on to my account just to see the amount and slightly bleary-eyed thought it was £1,000 until my sleepy brain processed that there were too many noughts and the win was a million.

"I turned to Amy saying ‘we’ve won a million’ but she just told me to shut up and stop being so silly.”

Now the pair are busy planning for the future. Mrs Pryor, a 28-year-old nursery manager, said: “It goes without saying we would give it all back in a heartbeat if it meant that Charlotte’s health problems would vanish but that’s not possible so instead this money will mean that we can do our absolute best for her, now and for the future.

“It’s just amazing, and goes to show you never know what the future will hold. £1m won’t change Charlotte’s health but it will dramatically change how we can manage it and that’s a miracle in itself.”

Alongside the financial security and a new home, the couple are planning a few treats including a UK holiday, their first as a family, and in the future a trip to Disneyland.

But the list doesn’t stop there for Mrs Pryor, who said: “Call me decadent but I’m going to splash out on a cordless hoover too. Come to think of it, I could even invest in a cleaner, now there’s a thought.”

Up until March last year, 90 winners from the ME postcode had pocketed nearly £105m between them, making it one of the luckiest areas of the country.
