Coronavirus Kent: 34 confirmed Covid-19 deaths within county

At least 34 people have died from coronavirus in Kent in just over a fortnight.

The figures released today by NHS England also reveal the number of confirmed deaths in England has jumped by 561 to 2,698 and at which trusts the deaths occurred.

Some 44 of the 561 patients, aged between 25 and 100 years old, had no known underlying health condition.

The UK figure stands at 2,921 as of yesterday afternoon, but that only accounts for those who died in hospital and not in the community.

Since March 18, there have been 34 confirmed deaths at hospitals in Kent.

At Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) 13 people have died since March 18, including three on Monday.

It is not yet known which hospitals all the deaths at MTW are linked to.

There have been 13 deaths reported by East Kent Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust since March 22, including one on Tuesday.

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust reported four deaths, with three people passing away on March 22 and another on March 25.

Kent's first death was a 64-year-old man with underlying health conditions.

He died at Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham on March 18. There have been three other reported deaths at the trust, with two people passing away on March 29, and another on Sunday.

Shirley Brown 83, from St Mary's Platt became the second person in the county to have died after testing positive for the disease.

She had underlying health conditions, including asthma and lung disease at died at Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury.

While these are the only deaths in the county which could be confirmed by NHS England or reported to Kent Online by family members, there could be more as of yet unreported.
