At its peak, queues were stretching back to junction 7 for the A249 and Detling Hill and congestion remains in some areas, including on the A20 London Road between Allington and Larkfield and the southbound A229 Blue Bell Hill.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were called at 6.28am on January 9 to reports of a three-car collision on the London-bound of the M20 between junctions 5 and 4. "

No injuries were reported.

Motorists are still advised to expect delays throughout the area and allow extra time for their journeys.
