The accident was between Junction 4 for Snodland and Junction 3 for the M26.

Lane one was closed, affecting traffic from Maidstone to Dartford.

The area was cleared just before 6pm. It is not know at this stage, whether there were any injuries.

Meanwhile, there was another accident on the A249.

One lane was closed on the Maidstone-bound carriageway approaching the M2 roundabout at Stockbury.

Emergency services were in attendance and there were long delays affecting people coming from Sheppey and Sittingbourne.

It appears that three vehicles crashed approaching the traffic lights.

The area was cleared by 6.15pm and traffic began returning to normal.
