Fire in flats in Parkwood, Maidstone

Fire crews were called to a blaze at a flat.

Two engines from Maidstone were sent to Wallis Avenue in the Parkwood area of the town.

Fire crews received the call at 6.54pm after reports of a flat "well alight".

The tenant of the flat was evacuated and left in the care of Kent Fire and Rescue Services Volunteer Response Team.

The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished by 7.45pm.

Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose jet to tackle the blaze in a ground floor flat of the three-storey building.

The fire started in the kitchen.

It is not yet known what caused the blaze.
