Afterwards he was congratulated by the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Marion Ring.

The runner-up was 18-year-old pianist Finn Gape, while the judges awarded eight-year-old cellist Oliver Moh as the Young Musician of Promise.

Also performing during the evening was pianist Matt Hua, last year's winner, and a string trio from King's School Rochester.

The eight finalists were selected on the strength of their performances at the Maidstone Music Festival held at Invicta Grammar School last November.

The other finalists were Ashley Solano (piano), Eliza Ruffle (piano), Siena Barr (clarinet), Leonie Carrette (voice) and Emma Courtness (voice).
