Body found underneath Sainsbury's car park in Maidstone

The body of a man has been found beneath a supermarket car park in a town centre just feet from shoppers.

Police and paramedics were called to the area outside Sainsbury's in Romney Place, Maidstone shortly after noon.

Officers and the ambulance service attended and a man was declared deceased at the scene.

Staff at a nearby garage said they saw emergency services carrying a body out from the covered area where many homeless people are known to take shelter.

However, the circumstances of this man's death are not known.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Next of kin have been informed.

He has since been named locally.
