Van fire causes delays for drivers along A249 near Detling, between Maidstone and Sittingbourne

A van that caught alight has caused delays for drivers.

The vehicle was on fire along the A249 near Detling, a route stretching between Maidstone and Sittingbourne.

Two fire engines attended at around 10.53am along with officers from Kent Police.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using a hose reel jet.

It is understood that they left the scene by 11.43am and the vehicle was recovered.

A spokesman added: “There were no reported injuries, and the cause is unknown.”

Police confirmed the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
