Plans have been put forward to build 42 homes in a village, after a previous application was turned down.
The development is proposed for 7.8 acres of land south of Ashford Road, Harrietsham, near Maidstone.
The scheme, submitted to Maidstone council by Wealden Homes, is for six one-bedroom houses, 11 two-bedroom houses, 22 three-bedroom houses, and two four-bedroom houses.
A two-bedroom flat will also be built, if given the green light.
In total, 17 of the 42 homes will be classed as affordable housing, and 81 parking spaces would be provided.
The developer’s plans for 58 homes on the land were previously refused.
After being turned down by Maidstone council, Wealden Homes appealed to a Planning Inspector, who dismissed it.
Inspector Luke Simpson concluded: “Whilst I have concluded that the principle of development would be acceptable, the proposal would be harmful to the character and appearance of the area.”
In its new scheme, Wealden Homes says it has addressed the concerns raised.
Its planning statement its says its updated plan will “create a more organic layout” to produce a more rural character, relocate the apartments to a less visually sensitive part of the site and spread over two smaller buildings so that they are less visually dominant and reduce the number of larger 4-bedroom homes, as well as cutting down the overall number.
It also claims less of the estate will be visible from the National Landscape of the Kent Downs due to the change in layout.
