Dramatic footage shows the moment a car was engulfed in flames on a busy road as stunned drivers watched on.

Fire crews were called to Forstal Road, near The Village Hotel in Maidstone, at 6.43pm yesterday (Monday) following the incident.

A video sent in by Luke Gilbert shows multiple people standing near the vehicle as it goes up in flames.

A few times, loud bangs are heard as the vehicle appears to explode, and some people can been seen getting close to the burning wreck to take photos or videos.

Drivers were being forced to turn around as emergency services made their way to the scene.

Two fire engines attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames.

Mr Gilbert, who witnessed the incident, said: “On the way home tonight, the car was gone, but cones and police tape were still there and the floor is burnt.”

There were no reported injuries, and the cause is not yet known.
