M20 near Maidstone shut until midnight and man injured after crash involving two lorries

The coastbound carriageway of the M20 was shut until midnight and a man taken to hospital after a crash involving two lorries.

The incident happened just outside Maidstone between junction 8 A20 Ashford Road for Leeds Castle/Maidstone Services and junction 9 A20 Fougeres Way, for Ashford, at 5.45pm yesterday.

Some traffic was trapped within the closure and tailbacks reached junction 7.

Drivers were diverted via the A20 as emergency services dealt with the incident.

A police spokesman confirmed the crash involved two lorries.

"Officers attended along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service and a man was taken to a local hospital," he said.

"The road was closed while the incident was responded to and reopened at around midnight."
