Suspected drug dealer arrested and charged after police chase in Maidstone town centre

A suspected drug dealer has been arrested and charged after being chased on foot by plain clothed officers in Maidstone town centre.

Officers were on a proactive patrol in the County Town on Thursday morning, when they became suspicious of a car turning into Knightrider Court.

An occupant of the car is then reported to have pushed an officer after leaving the vehicle and being told he had been stopped for a drug search.

A chase then took place on foot, leading to an arrest being made in Lower Stone Street.

A mobile phone alongside a quantity of suspected class A drugs and cash was later seized.

Following enquiries, Rhys Costello has been charged with possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply, possessing heroin with intent to supply and obstructing an authorised person exercising a drug search.

The 29-year-old, of Knightrider Street, Maidstone, was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

At the hearing he was further remanded in custody and will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on a date to be determined.
