Maidstone fire crews tackle River Medway boat blaze

Firefighters spent an hour putting out a fire which started on board a pleasure craft boat.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 5.10am after reports of the boat alight on the River Medway at Maidstone close to Unicumes Lane.

Two fire engines attended and crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames. The fire was put out by 6.25am.

There were no reported injuries and the cause is not known.
