Car fire off Hermitage, near Maidstone Hospital, Barming

Firefighters were called to a blaze after a car was set on fire deliberately.

Two fire engines attended the fire off Hermitage Lane, Barming, at around 1.30am this morning.

Crews put out the flames, which had started to spread to a nearby log pile and hedge, using hose reel jets. There were no casualties.

A spokesman for the Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it's believed the fire was started deliberately.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called at around 1.30am on Monday 19 April 2021 regarding a car alight in Hermitage Lane, Maidstone.

"Officers and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene where fire crews extinguished the fire. "Enquiries are underway into the cause of the fire."
