Kent Police was called at 5.45pm to a report from a member of the public that the van had become stuck in mud, after rubbish as well as old toys and children’s scooters were dumped in a wooded area.

Two men were questioned at scene. The vehicle was also found to have no road tax and seized.

The matter has now been referred to Maidstone Borough Council for further action and which has responsibility for dealing with fly-tipping.

PC Ian Loft of the tactical operations team said: "Fly-tipping is a scourge on our communities and an issue which we work hard to combat, in conjunction with our partners including the relevant local authorities. It is likely these men will now face significant fines for their actions.

"Residents also need to be vigilant when paying for people to dispose of rubbish, including rubble and building materials. Remember to check for a valid waste carrier licence before hiring anyone.

"In this instance neither of the men had a licence, which ultimately means anyone found to have employed them could also face financial penalties."

Anyone who wishes to report an incident of fly-tipping should contact their local council. If fly-tipping is in progress, contact police by dialling 999.
