Coronavirus Kent: The Mall Maidstone offers free parking for key workers

The car park at The Mall shopping centre in Maidstone will no longer charge for parking until further notice.

The centre on Pad's Hill says the move is to support key workers and those needing to access essential services during the coronavirus outbreak.

The Mall will remain open but the pay machines will be out-of-order to reduce exposure to the virus and reduce the financial burden on key workers and guests.

General Manager Andy Davy said: “Our number one priority throughout this difficult time has been the health and safety of our people and our community.

"We continue to implement a number of preventative measures, which we have done since the outbreak of COVID-19, including escalating the intensity and frequency of our cleaning procedures, providing instructional signage and encouraging all our visitors and staff to practice good hygiene with regular hand washing.

"This additional change will help those who have no choice but to use their cars, which is particularly important while we all practice social distancing and avoid public transport.

“We would also like to remind guests this measure is designed to help those who have a real need to use the car parks. Everyone should be following the Government’s instructions to stay at home unless absolutely necessary, so that we can all get through this challenging time together safely.”
