A homeless man smashed a glass door, causing £500 of damage, after being refused entry to a building.
Michael Fuller had tried to go inside Colman House, in King Street, Maidstone, to see a friend but when staff refused to let him enter the building he became angry and started kicking the glass panel door.
The incident was on October 25, last year, and the 45-year-old was later charged.
Fuller, of no fixed address, admitted criminal damage when he appeared in court in January.
At the time sentencing was adjourned and he returned to Medway Magistrates’ Court on February 11, to hear his fate.
While in the dock he also admitted being in breach of a previous community order he’d been given for another criminal damage matter.
The court heard he was in breach of the order by not completing his unpaid work requirement.
Rajni Prashar, prosecuting, said: “It was about 5.30pm and he was outside Colman House asking to be let in to see a friend.
“He’s not allowed in the property and he then began to kick the glass panel door and it smashed and was caught on CCTV and seen by staff.
“I am told it cost £500 to repair, so I will ask for that amount of compensation and he has a previous conviction for criminal damage in July 2024 when he was given the community order.”
A probation officer also told Deputy District Judge Nicola Fleck that Fuller was in breach of his community order as he didn’t comply with the online courses given to him to complete his unpaid work requirement.
However, the officer did also admit because he was of no fixed address, it may have been difficult for him to “get on board with that”.
She also mentioned Fuller was engaging very well on the order now and was getting help with some of his mental health issues.
Manjit Tesse, defending, told the judge that his client had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and that he was homeless and on benefits.
Judge Fleck fined Fuller £50 for the breach and placed him on a 24-month conditional discharge for the criminal damage offence.
He was also ordered to pay £250 towards the cost of the repair to the glass panel and will pay what he owes the court at a rate of £20 a month.
