Coronavirus Kent: Thousands working from home

Thousands of people across the county are today beginning a period of working from home.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said yesterday that people should not travel to their normal place of work unless it was absolutely essentialamid the coronavirus outbreak.

Although home working has grown in popularity in recent years, for many it will still be an unusual experience - and we want to see your impromptu home offices.

KentOnline is being brought to you by a team of reporters dotted across the county, with most other businesses also telling staff to stay away.

Some companies, such as Folkestone-based search digital experts Sleeping Giant Media, had already trialled home working for their entire workforce.

Instead of working on desktops and landlines, the team used their mobiles and laptops and set up with Google Hangout and video calling to maintain contact with each other.

Pictured here is Pearson Whiffin Recruitment's newest recruit who is working from home today.

Paul Stirman, Group Managing Director of the firm based in Kings Hill, said: "Her name is Kiki, she is nine months old, I have her recruiting for us already."

The Prime Minister has also said everyone in the UK should avoid "non-essential" travel and contact with others to curb coronavirus and to work from home wherever possible.

Tim Masters is also working from home in Gravesend, he has his laptop on the table and a great view of his garden and has his hand sanitiser at hand too.
