First Wendy's in Kent unveils Maidstone shopfront

The county's very first Wendy's store has been unveiled after scaffolding was taken down.

People in Maidstone were able to see the brand-new store front of the American diner and burger chain over the weekend.

The eatery is due to open in Week Street, in place of the former Carphone Warehouse, in the coming weeks.

Planning and construction started on the diner back in May after years of speculation it was coming to the town.

The American chain, which was founded in 1969, announced plans last November to open 50 new branches across the UK.

But on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning workers were seen removing scaffolding.

It will join the likes of Taco Bell, German Doner Kebab and Kaniklar Restaurant to have opened on the street in the past two years, as well as Pizza Express, the Giggling Squid and 7Bone in nearby Earl Street.

Previously Abigail Pringle, Wendy’s chief development officer, said: “We have seen incredible success that outperformed our expectations, and it’s clear to us that customers are loving our fresh, high-quality food.”

Customers can expect a variety of menu options ranging from breakfast and vegetarian choices to their famous square-patty burgers.

Wendy's has been approached for more information on an opening date.
