Schools on Oakwood Park campus on high alert after reports of man with a bladed weapon

Reports of a knife man roaming the streets near a campus resulted in schools going in to lockdown.

Sites on the Oakwood Park Campus in Maidstone locked their doors yesterday morning after reports of a man walking along the nearby Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, carrying a bladed weapon.

Police responded in force to the alarm and completed a search of the campus, but found nobody matching the description of the offender who was in dark clothing and carrying a rucksack.

Police received a 999 call at 7.35am and the alert was stood down at about 11am.

Police said they had received only one call, but responded with a number of patrols. Officers spoke to the schools to give reassurance.

A spokesman for Oakwood Park Grammar, one of several schools on the site, said they had kept students within the school as a precaution, but had not been directly affected.
