Latest planning applications in Maidstone include padel courts in Boughton Monchelsea and new store at former PDSA shop in high street

Plans for new sports facilities and a high street store are among the latest applications submitted to Maidstone council.

Artificial grass supplier Forever Green Lawns is seeking permission to create five padel courts in Boughton Monchelsea, near Maidstone.

The courts, four of which would be for doubles, and one for singles games, would be housed inside a 16,000 sq ft building on the Monchelsea Farm Estate.

The proposals include alterations to the building’s exterior, cycle and bin storage, and new boundary fencing.

If approved, the village could be home to one of the county’s largest indoor padel centres, making it a “modern sporting destination”.

In Maidstone town centre, plans have been put forward for the former PDSA shop, next to Optimax laser eye clinic and Making a Difference to Maidstone.

The animal charity shop closed in May after 22 years of trading on the high street.

Now, applicant Fazelghani Safi has submitted a planning application for a new shopfront featuring two roller shutters.

The application does not detail what the store will be.

At 1 Rose Cottages in Lenham Heath, a proposal has been put forward to convert outbuildings and land into holiday accommodation.

The project includes raising the roof height, installing new fencing and creating parking and bin storage areas.

And in Hollingbourne, listed building consent is sought for internal and external alterations at The Dirty Habit pub.

The public house, which is one of Kent’s oldest, was devastated by a fire three years ago.

Reconstruction of it has been underway, with the front of the building set to be restored by the end of this month.

If approved, the latest plans will allow for the conversion of the upper floors into bed and breakfast accommodation and the erection of a small rear extension.
