Lib Dem leader to visit Maidstone

Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrat party, is coming to Maidstone.

Mr Clegg will visit Coxheath Village Hall on Monday where he will meet Gurkha veterans from all over Kent after they won their campaign for all retired veterans to stay in the UK.

He will also meet local Lib Dem parliamentary prospective candidate Peter Carroll, who helped lead the campaign and enlisted the support of actress Joanna Lumley.

Later he will also visit Cranbrook to show his support for the town’s campaign to acquire the site of the former borough council offices for a community centre.

  • Mr Carroll is trying to track down a woman he met at an event in Cranbrook, who gave him the idea to get Miss Lumley involved in the Gurkha campaign. Read more here.
