Both lanes were initially shut, leading to long delays.

Traffic was queueing back to Bearsted Road on the A249 and there were long delays on the A229, including Royal Engineers Road.

Kent County Council's highways department warned motorists to expect delays.

At 5.15pm, it said one lane remained blocked at the Mote Road junction and emergency services were in attendance.

The second lane was reopened by just after 6pm, said KCC highways.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "We were called at around 5pm regarding a collision involving a lorry and a scooter on Knightrider Street at its junction with Upper Stone Street.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where the woman who had been using the scooter was treated for a leg injury. She was taken to a local hospital for further medical attention. The road was closed while emergency services dealt and was reopened at around 5.40pm."
