Southbound lane on the A249 in Detling blocked approaching J7 for the M20

A lorry fire has blocked part of a carriageway on the A249 in Detling.

A southbound lane is blocked approaching J7 for the M20 due to a fire, and KCC Highways on Twitter is warning of delays in the surrounding area.

Kent Police and the fire service attended, with no casualties reported.

A vehicle recovery is being arranged.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called at 5.35am to a report of a lorry on fire on the Maidstone bound A249 near Detling.

"Officers attended to assist with traffic measures and the fire was put out by KFRS.

Temporary lane closures are in force whilst the lorry is recovered."

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two fire engines and a bulk water carrier attended, and crews tackle the fire using compressed air foam and a hose reel jet. There were no reported casualties."

South East Coast Ambulance has been contacted for comment.
