Aeroplane flying low circles over Maidstone with landing gear down

A low flying plane has been circling over a town centre this afternoon.

Visitors to Maidstone saw a Bombardier Global 5000 flying low over Maidstone with its landing gear down and a hatch near the cockpit appears to be open.

The plane looks to have taken off from Biggin Hill Airport before heading towards the County Town.

It then circled six times above Maidstone and its surrounding areas before heading towards Dartford.

Kent Messenger understands no passengers were on board.

It's thought the plane was circling the town before returning to Biggin Hill Airport.

A spokeswoman on behalf of the airport said: "This was a normal flight part of regular operations."

When asked why it was flying low, circling over the town centre with its landing gear down, they responded. "It was just a regular, normal flight. There isn't a particular issue."

Today (Wednesday), the airport issued an updated comment saying the flight was part of "routine maintenance," after dropping passengers off at Biggin Hill Airport.
