M20 reopens after serious collision between Junction 9 for Ashford and 8 for Maidstone

A van driver was cut from the wreckage of his vehicle after it crashed with a lorry on the M20 early this morning.

The air ambulance was also called to the scene on the London-bound carriageway between Junctions 9 for Ashford, and Junction 8 for Maidstone just after 2.30am but the man's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service say crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut him free and he was then treated by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The London-bound carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and reopened at 4.45am.

The coast-bound carriageway was also closed while the air ambulance assisted, it reopened at around 4am.
