Man charged with using stolen cards in Maidstone shops

A man has appeared in court accused of using stolen bank cards to fund a shopping spree in Maidstone.

Diavraun Pope was charged with five burglaries, five counts of fraud, and a theft at a shop in Tonbridge Road.

It is alleged that, between September 25 and October 21, he stole the cards from workers at businesses in Buckland Road, London Road, Earl Street, Pudding Lane and Week Street while they were distracted.

They were later used to make purchases in the town centre.

Pope, of The Brent, Dartford, was arrested in Week Street, Maidstone last Wednesday.

The 40-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday, when he was remanded to a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court on November 26.
