Man charged after knife found hidden on bike in Maidstone

A man has been charged after police found a knife hidden on a bike.

A large blade with a serrated edge was found by plain clothes officers in Maidstone after a man was stopped on a bicycle in Wheeler Street on Thursday.

The knife was discovered concealed in a lock under the saddle.

Police tweeted about the find using the hashtag #LivesNotKnives and #OpSceptre, which targets people carrying weapons.

A man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and possessing a knife in a public place.

Since the incident Rodney Grannum, of Buckland Hill, Maidstone has been charged with possessing a knife in a public place.

The 53-year-old was bailed to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 10.
