Maidstone man Ethan Barr denies rape after nightclub attack at Astoria in Portsmouth

A man from Maidstone is set to go on trial for rape after an alleged attack at a nightclub.

Ethan Barr of Mallings Drive, Bearsted, appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court accused of the serious sex assault, which is reported to have happened at the Astoria in Portsmouth in April.

The 24-year-old pleaded not guilty and will stand trial at Portsmouth Crown on October 22.

The attack allegedly took place between 2am and 3am on April 30.

The victim, a 20-year-old woman, was helped by staff and later supported by specialist officers.

Hampshire Police said the venue had been assisting with the investigation.
