Man jailed after attempted knifepoint robbery in Morrisons supermarket in Sutton Road, Maidstone

A Maidstone man who tried to rob another man with two knives has been jailed for four years and five months.

Six foot Jason Barnes - wearing a hoodie and dark clothes - confronted his victim near Morrisons supermarket in Sutton Road telling him: "Give me your stuff!"

But Maidstone Crown Court heard that the victim began running away in Lynley Close - and easily outstripped the "erratic" would-be robber.

Barnes, 47, had been released from prison just a month before the bodged attack in November last year.

Prosecutor Julian Winship said he has since been recalled by the prison authorities to complete an earlier sentence.

He has now received a total of four years and five months for the attempted robbery, possessing two knives and assaulting an emergency worker.

The court heard how a PCSO was at the scene after being alerted by the victim and saw Barnes.

Together with two other police officers they arrested him after a struggle in which Barnes tried to headbutt one of them.
