Man charged after victim’s thumb ‘nearly severed’ at reported robbery near A20 Ashford Road in Maidstone

A man’s thumb was “almost completely severed with a knife” during a robbery.

Police were called to an address near the A20 Ashford Road in Maidstone to reports a man posing as a delivery driver had threatened the occupants, before reportedly assaulting one with a knife and leaving with a quantity of cash.

Police were called, along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

Following initial inquiries into the incident, which happened at around 9am on Friday, March 21, detectives arrested a man last Friday (March 28).

James Baseden, of Hollingworth Road in Maidstone, has now been charged with robbery.

The 36-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (March 29).

He was remanded in custody pending a further hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, April 25.
