Her son, Dan Walker arrived home to his house yesterday afternoon to find the door and the back gate open.

He could not locate his dog, Primrose, and he found drawers in his mother's bedroom were turned out with her jewellery missing.

The 27-year-old says that his house in Roseacre Lane near Hog Hill must have been targeted between midday and 2pm when he returned home.

He reported it to the police and issued an appeal to find Primrose on Facebook, which has been shared more than 1,800 times.

He believes that she either ran out the gate or was taken.

He said, "She's so friendly, she runs up to everyone and jumps up to them.

"We are starting to think she's been taken."

Dan said one woman had been in contact to say she had spotted a man in the area wearing a balaclava and carrying a load.

Police spokesman Natalie Hardy said: "Enquiries to establish more about the incident remains ongoing."

Anyone with information can contact Dan on 07835027153 or go to his Facebook page.
