Travellers are enjoying the sun in Gatland Park, Fant

Far from moving on, travellers who pitched up in Gatland Park in Fant in Maidstone on Thursday have been reinforced by some extra caravans today.

Police say they were first made aware of the travellers at 10pm on Thursday night.

A Gatland Lane resident said: "It is something we have almost come to expect every Bank Holiday.

"After the last invasion at the August Bank holiday last year, the council did instal a number of lockable posts and earthworks to keep them out in future, but somehow the travellers have found a way around that."

The home-owner said that the visitors had not so far caused residents any problems, apart from the noise.

He said: "They do seem to be making quite a racket, but it's a happy sound, like they are enjoying the sunny weather."

Police said responsibility for the travellers' eviction lay with the landowner, which is Maidstone Borough Council, and officers had been in consultation with them.
