It's understood a man collapsed by the pumps on the southbound carriageway.

A Secamb spokesman said: "We were called to Shell Cossington on Chatham Road to reports a person had collapsed.

"Ambulance crews attended the scene and the man, who required resuscitation, was treated before being taken to William Harvey Hospital in a serious condition. We would like to thank everyone who came to the person’s aid prior to our arrival."

Other visitors helped the man before paramedics arrived.

Police say they were called at about 7.15am.
