MP Helen Grant meets protesters ahead of March For Marden

MP Helen Grant was in Marden today to meet protestors ahead of tomorrow's planned demonstration.

Residents are angry about suggestions the village could accommodate a proposed 2,000-home "garden community".

They say the village simply can't take that number of new homes - despite promises from Countryside Properties the development would include two new schools, health facilities and office space.

The proposal that has been submitted following Maidstone council's "call for sites" ahead of its 2022 Local Plan Review would double the size of the village.

Mrs Grant, who represents Maidstone and the Weald, donned a yellow "Say No" T-shirt and posed for photographs behind a banner.

There will be plenty more banners on display tomorrow, when organisers of March for Marden expect hundreds of people to take to the streets.

The demonstrators are gathering at Marden Memorial Hall in Goudhurst Road at noon before marching to Southon Field.

The protest is being organised by the Marden Planning Opposition Group.
