Maidstone and Weald MP Helen Grant's son Ben Grant filmed 'destroying Russian armoured vehicle'

The son of a Conservative MP, who is fighting in Ukraine, has reportedly been filmed helping to blow up a Russian armoured vehicle.

Ben Grant, son of Maidstone and The Weald MP Helen Grant, was present before an anti-tank missile was launched on a Russian BTR during an operation in a woodland in northeast Ukraine, reports The Independent.

The video, obtained by The i, appears to show the former Royal Marine shouting orders as the mission took place.

It comes after he entered Kyiv in March alongside a group of British ex-servicemen to join the war.

The 30-year-old, who spent more than five years as a commando in the Royal Marines, didn't tell his mother he was going.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Ben helped drag one of his comrades to safety as mortars and artillery were fired towards them in woodland north of Kharkiv earlier in May.

Ben said he was “terrified” but focused on getting former Grenadier Guardsman Dean Arthur out of danger.

He told The Daily Telegraph: “What was so scary was being so limited by trying to carry someone, when I can’t pull my weapon up, while there are attack helicopters overhead and tanks firing through the woods.

“It was unreal – I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life."

Back in March, Ben was working as a security contractor in Iraq before he decided to leave for Europe.

He said: “I was over in Iraq and was there for few months and then flew home, saw my missus and kids, hadn’t seen them for a while, and basically said: ‘I’m going to Ukraine’.

"So it's a big shock, I feel a bit sorry for them to be fair, they were pretty upset, but people need me here.”

He said: “If it comes to me being able to end my life before getting captured, I probably would do that.

"I mentally prepared myself for that, but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.”

Helen Grant has been MP for Maidstone and The Weald since 2010.

She is also Boris Johnson’s special envoy on girls’ education and a former minister for sport and tourism.

Her office has been approached for comment.
