A crash involving a number of vehicles blocked the M20 near Maidstone.

Huge queues formed on the coastbound stretch of the motorway from just after Junction 8 for Leeds Castle back towards Junction 7 at the bottom of Detling Hill.

Pictures from Highways England traffic cameras showed the resulting congestion.

It is understood three vehicles were involved in the accident.

Traffic was reportedly held at about 6.40pm following the smash.

By 7.15pm, just the inside lane remained blocked and the congestion had cleared.
