Just after 5am this morning, National Highways said the M20 had reopened westbound between junctions 9 and 8 but lane 3 (of 3) remains closed for emergency barrier repairs.

They said: “The lane closure will be in place throughout the day; further repairs will take place tonight. Eastbound has reopened following planned roadworks.”

The crash on Tuesday evening involved four vehicles.

A National Highways spokesman said: “A lorry with a trailer has hit a bridge support and central reservation, creating debris.

“It was a multi-vehicle collision but no injuries were reported. The clean-up operation is due to take some time.”

A fire service spokesman says crews were called to a crash involving four vehicles.

“On arrival, no firefighting operations were required,” they said.

“Crews assisted Kent Police in making the scene safe.”
