Maidstone man arrested after woman injured during Marsham Street assault

An elderly woman had to be treated for injuries she suffered during a suspected assault.

Police were called to Marsham Street, Maidstone, shortly after 11pm yesterday following reports of a woman in her 70s being in need of medical attention.

She was left in the care of medics and taken to hospital before a 59-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault.

Officers returned to the address this morning to continue their inquiries.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police attended a property on Marsham Street at 11.06pm on Saturday where it was reported a woman in her 70s was in need of medical attention.

"South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

"A 59-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody."
