Two changes to a town’s food offering could be on the menu, with plans for a new venture and another business hoping to stay open later.
A mobile phone shop could be transformed into a hot food takeaway and sandwich bar, while a branch of Domino’s Pizza wants to extend its opening hours.
Kaan Memati has applied to change the use of the building in Gabriel’s Hill, Maidstone, which is home to Mobile Tek.
A design and access statement backing the plans said: “The proposal aims to enhance the vibrancy of the local area by offering a high-quality takeaway and café facility, catering to both residents and visitors.”
It continued: “The proposed change of use will contribute to the vitality of Gabriel's Hill by shifting a low density and employment unit to a more active and intensive use.
“It will create new employment opportunities for local residents.
“The business will enhance the food and drink offer in the area by catering for the surrounding workers and high street visitors throughout the day.”
The property, towards the top of the hill, is Grade II-listed and in the Maidstone Town Centre Conservation Area.
Plans for the inside show two tables with seating, a large serving counter, a coffee machine and chicken rotisserie oven, with a kitchen at the back.
Apart from new signs, there would be no changes to the outside. It is a three-storey building but the application concerns only the ground floor.
Mr Memati is seeking permission to open between 7am and 7pm Monday to Saturday and between 9am and 4pm on Sunday.
Details can be found on the Maidstone council website here, under application number 25/501343.

Meanwhile, an application has also gone in to extend the opening hours of Domino’s at 2 Ashford Road, Maidstone.
Currently, the branch is limited by planning conditions to opening between 10am and midnight every day.
It actually opens between 11am and 11pm.
However, Kaji Gurang, of Popat Leisure, is seeking permission for it to open from 11am to 1am, Sunday to Thursday, and from 11am till 3am on Friday and Saturday.
Responding to the plan, a member of the council’s Environmental Protection Team wrote: “Although there have not been any historical complaints regarding noise outside the premises, the extended times may give rise to the associated activities, such as deliveries and patrons outside, causing a nuisance.
“Environmental Protection would, therefore require a noise management plan.”
Details of the proposals can be found here.
