A 27-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police have extended his custody overnight.

A neighbour, Alin Carstov, says the flat where the suspected murder took place has been occupied by a man and a woman who moved in roughly two weeks ago.

He spoke of how he and a neighbour called police around lunchtime yesterday after they found a young boy, aged around five, alone in a car parked at the block.

It is not known if this is linked with the investigation.

Mr Carstov said: "I was going out and realised I had forgotten something and when I came back our neighbour found a child in the car park and we were trying to find out who his parents were and where he lived.

"My neighbour called the police and we both left when they took over and we thought that was it. He seemed a very nice child, but looked a bit in shock.

"A friend later asked me what was happening in the car park as there were loads of police and an ambulance. I haven't been told anything, I saw what had happened on Kentonline."

Police activity today is on the top floor of the three-storey block which has nine flats.

Mr Carstov said of the couple: "I didn't know them well. I had a conversation with the man about work as I'd mentioned my work were hiring but I got the impression he wasn't serious about it. He seemed a bit of a nervous person when I spoke to him."

Other neighbours said they didn't know the couple but were aware of a huge police presence.
